  • Is ACLS the same as BLS?

    • No, ACLS is the next step up in training. In this class the American Heart adds more layers of education to the foundation of BLS. While performing BLS skills, ACLS skills are added to the code blue. Advanced Cardiac Life Support skills include cardiac rhythm interpretation, advanced airway placement, drug administration, cardiac pacing, defibrillation and post resuscitation management.

  • Is ACLS hard?

    • Yes, it should not be taken lightly. We have had to reschedule students because of failure to study. In an ACLS class, you will be required to begin BLS protocol, recognize life threatening cardiac rhythms and provide appropriate treatment (electrotherapy vs drug administration), manage patients airways and provide post resuscitation care. Failure to do so, will result in a repeat of the class.

  • Is ACLS a national certification?

    • Yes. See the above question.

  • Is ACLS open book?

  • Does ACLS count, include or cover BLS?

    • No, ACLS is it's own class. It covers Advanced Cardiac Life Support and students are expected and required to already know Basic Life Support (BLS).

  • Does ACLS include first aid?

    • No, first aid address mostly traumatic and some medical emergencies. ACLS specifically focused on advanced treatments of cardiac arrest (code blue).
